SCR Altach is currently one of the big surprises in the Austrian Bundesliga. The Vorarlberg team has only lost one of its seven season games so far and is ranked third in the table. Christoph Zellner, who has been the team's athletic coach since summer, has played a significant role in the team's success. The 33-year-old was previously employed by SSV Ulm 1846 Football until March of this year. Zellner is happy with his new job and says: 'Many components come together here: the proximity to home, an exciting league, and a great club.' However, the past few months have not been easy for him. 'It was emotionally everything', he says. Zellner was released from his contract in Ulm after the team's promotion from the regional league to the 2nd Bundesliga in March of this year, along with coach Thomas Wörle and assistant coach Maximilian Knauer. His family was an important support during this time. Zellner took a break with his partner in the Philippines and worked diligently in the youth performance center of Karlsruher SC and with the Spatzen. SCR Altach has been a staple of the Austrian Bundesliga for many years and even played in the Europa League in the 2015/2016 and 2017/2018 seasons. Meanwhile, Zellner has moved to Weißensberg near Lindau with his wife. The training grounds in Altach are only about 20 minutes away by highway. The 33-year-old raves about the club and its environment: 'It's all very family-like, yet professional. I felt welcome right away', he says. Christoph Zellner gets along very well with coach Fabio Ingolitsch. He is able to contribute his own ideas and experiences as a sports scientist and nutritionist at any time and works closely with the coach. SCR Altach has invested a lot in recent years to modernize its home stadium. A new business building for VIP guests and events was recently opened. 'A lot is happening', says Zellner with enthusiasm. SCR Altach wants to continue competing for the top spots in the Bundesliga this season. With Christoph Zellner as athletic coach, the club has found an important part of its success.
